Ignace, Cardinal of the Spire for the [[Breath of the Sun]], was born Ivor vo'Byarsha is a green dragonborn from [[Byarmarsh]]. His family, which isn't noble but is influential, is heavily involved with automaton labor. As such, he sees them as objects and tools. Plus, if Awakening became common, his family would be beggared. Combine that with just being a general bigot and a bit of a dragonborn supremacist (we're the chosen race...the rest of you are fine if you serve us) and you get a nasty piece of work.

He's attained his position at a young age by also being an effective warrior, a charismatic preacher, and having significant magical power. Politically, he's the leader of the firebrand theocracy faction, and sees himself as being the appropriate High Priest and King of the new Wyrmhold he's trying to create.
