Cai'Valur

A minor isal (khun) family in Asai'ka, they are influential beyond their status as the orchestrators of the western trade route to Fort Hope.

Time of Troubles/Red Death

The fortunes of the Cai'Valur fell drastically with the cessation of trade attendant to the Red Death and the ensuing chaos in Asai'ka.

Kanin and Chaman both died, leaving Praman as head of house. In a surprising upset, he put Mikuna out to pasture upon ascension.

When the Serpent Dominion absorbed Asai'ka, Ahzekiel Cai'Valur took the now-adult Chesdan away from her family, granting her a place at his court. Praman spins this as a victory, that he is now more connected to the real powers. But most observers see it as King Cai'Valur removing the only non-toxic portions of the family and cutting the rest loose.

The family is trying to re-configure around more sustainable grounds, but is deeply in debt and struggling to deal with the changes to their stations.

Kanin and Spouses

Family Head

Kanin. An elderly man, he has been sickly for several years. Married to Chaman. Died in 253 AC of the Red Plague.

Wife

Chaman ne' Dahal. Retiring and elderly, she has little influence in the family affairs. Mother of Pran and Akkanee, adopted mother of Azhtar Cai'Valur. Died soon after her husband, of natural causes.

Concubine

Minkuna ne' Rana. Much younger and aggressively ambitious. Mother of Nada and Praman. Has joined the underground resistance to the Serpent Dominion and is incredibly bitter. But so far has avoided anything explicitly illegal.

Children

Pran (B. 202 AC)

Eldest son, but estranged. Gay, living with his dwarf lover (Khael) in Sha'slar as a weaver. Has renounced his name and title. Personality: camp.

Tuyaen ne' Kelap(B. 211 AC)

Azhtar's "widow". Despises him secretly, but conflicted toward Ahzekiel. Addicted to snakeweed (pot, basically, except not so mellow). Follows Mikuna's lead but tries to undercut her. Praman's lover for many years, but now they're separated. Clingy. She's actually adapted to the fall of the house more gracefully than most, and has re-married into the Lai caste.

Nada (Born 212 AC)

Married to a much older Serpent Dominion noble (Isal Sat'psa Turan, a relative of the Sat'psa clan). Glad to be out of the poisonous Rana family.

Praman (B. 214 AC)

Handsome, noble, the face of the family. A shrewd businessman, he organized the opening of trade across the Northern Wilds. Father of Vou & Chesdan. Ended up marrying the daughter of a ranking priest, and is still trying to salvage the reputation by appearing even more devout than before.

Akkanee (B 220 AC)

Beauty, partially trained as Temple Dancer (but kicked out for an act of jealousy). Widow of a much older noble. Had a child by an ophidian servant (Jara, a boy of 12). Was left only a pittance in the will when he died about 6 years ago. Still bitter about that. Dabbles in magic (divination). Has a parade of lovers of both sexes. Prefers ophidians. According to rumors, she especially prefers the Isal'psa, the less humanoid the better. Current whereabouts (as of 260 AC) unknown. Probably in a brothel somewhere.

Vou (B 230 AC)

Child of Praman and Tuyaen, although officially Zeke's younger sister. Self-centered, spoiled, hedonistic. Concubinage fell through, she has since married a much older (but wealthy) a-political Isal.

Chesdan (B 234 AC)

Child of Praman and Tuyaen. Naïve, enjoys power and prestige but doesn't know the details. Still a Zeke fangirl. Currently working as a teacher at Zeke's school for magic, teaching Stone Throne/Jungle of Fangs history. A minor sorceress.
