One of the three artifacts given to the ancient cysgor to seal the Pact with Death. Said to have great power over Shadow. Currently in three pieces. One of those pieces is held by Enigma; the whereabouts of the other two are uncertain, but it is believed that the heads of the Raven and Magpie Septs each have one.
On 1 Winter Dying 250 AC, the rod was reunited. Until a new cysgor Prime was chosen, it chose to adventure alongside Rune. After the new Prime was chosen, it returned to Cysgor hands to symbolize and strengthen the reformed purpose of the shadow elves.
Personality
Quiet, no nonsense. Strongly dislikes Awakener and all related entities. Takes action first and asks questions...never?
Powers
The ebony rod is a morphing weapon, capable of taking on the shape of a +3 quarterstaff (the default) or a +3 longsword whose blade is edged in force (dealing +2d6 force damage on a hit). In either form, it has the following abilities in Rune's hand (each wielder gets slightly different properties):
- Two "floating" warlock invocations, switchable at the end of a long rest. Rune counts as having all his class levels in warlock for prerequisites for these invocations.
- A flying speed equal to his walking speed, as the rod creates footholds made of force under his feet.
- As an action, close any portals within 30' OR as a reaction, keep any portals (such as due to a teleport effect) open for 1 minute.
- 7 charges, which can be used in the following fashion (regaining 1d6+1 at dawn)
- 3 charges: regain a warlock spell slot as a bonus action
- 4 charges: heal HP equal to the damage dealt during this turn, with extra becoming temporary HP
- 2 charges: All creatures within 5 feet must make a Dexterity saving throw against the Spell Save DC. On a failure, they take 4d12 force damage and their speed is reduced to 0 until the end of their next turn.
- 1 charge: Ranged spell attack (120 ft), one creature. Hit: 4d10+5 force damage and the creature is teleported to a point of Rune's choosing that he can see within 120 feet of him.
