When he was 13, some people came and told him he was being taken to a school for gifted and talented individuals in Varanasi. He jumped at the chance to see more outside of town, but wasn't sure why he was chosen. While he was there he made some friends (the rest of the group) and, for the most part, enjoyed his time there. He also had a habit of sticking up for others at the school, which earned him both friends and enemies.

He left the school when he was 17, and eventually made his way back to Pasona and went back to working with Qira. One night a few months later, he was outside and saw something crash to the ground. His curiosity got the better of him and he went to see what it was. What he saw was a small dragon that was the color of amethyst. It was injured and, over the next month, he took care of it, though the relationship was a bit rocky at first. He named the dragon Aegon. One day, a couple months later when he was checking on Aegon, a group of well armed and armored people surrounded him and Aegon. Their leader, a Triton man named Ralis Moreno, seemed to recognize Erland's necklace and stepped forward. He asked Erland where he got the necklace, and a wicked look spread across his face at the answer. Ralis said that Erland and the "beast" were coming with him. Naturally, Erland refused to back down and it was at this moment the bond between Erland and Aegon solidified. Erland's eye became more draconic and turned the color of amethyst. He and Aegon attempted to fight them off but there were too many and the hunters had actual combat training. Just as Ralis was about to finish Erland, there was a blast of lightning and a blue dragon with a man riding it landed near the hunters, causing them to flee. The man picked up Erland and patched him up. He noticed Aegon then introduced himself as Jon Mallory, a Dragon Knight. He then told Erland that, due to the bond with the drakkon (as Jon called Aegon) that Erland had the chance to become a Knight. He looked at Aegon then back at Jon and accepted. The strange group then made their way back to town and was subject to many strange looks and whispers. Erland said his goodbye's, gathered his few belongings and left with Jon.

He stayed and trained with the Dragon Knights until he was 19, and made a couple of friends: a half-elven woman named Calia Amann (who bonded to a silver drakkon) and a human man named Jaiden Thatcher (who bonded to a green drakkon). Together, the three of them traveled as their own Free Brotherhood band. It went well for several months. Unfortunately, it didn't last. The group had met up with another Brotherhood band and were camping with them when Jaiden and his drakkon suddenly attacked both groups without any explanation. He managed to kill the other Knights (with skill both he and his drakkon shouldn't have at this level of training) and wounded Erland and Calia before disappearing. Shortly after, Calia left to join the Moonshell flight as a Flightbound. Erland managed to contact Jon a short time later, and it turned out Jaiden had managed to convince a majority of the other Free Brotherhood Knights (though not all, Jon being one of the main ones that didn't believe Jaiden) that Erland was to blame for the death of those Knights and that Erland was to be exiled and a bounty had been placed on his head. Erland had no choice but to stay on the move and turn to basic mercenary work.

Most of the time, his jobs weren't well paying and, due to his nature as a tiefling and Dragon Knight, he was rarely well received (which made getting work rather difficult). Some jobs were less legal than others. However, his luck seemed to change when he came across a job for a noble family in Mirzapur, the D'Arcy family. They needed someone to find their daughter and bring her home. Erland met with them and took the job, though he felt like something was off. It took him a few months, but he was finally able to track down their daughter. Their first meeting actually escalated to a fight (despite her seeing the drakkon, which didn't seem to faze her, much to Erland's surprise), one that, surprisingly to Erland, ended in a stalemate. Once they both calmed down, she ended up giving her side of the story: her parents, her father in particular, effectively kept her prisoner (gilded cage sort of thing) because she's "different" (i.e celestial plane-touched) and she was worried what they might end up doing. She decided she'd had enough, ran off and had no desire to go back. Her story resonated with Erland, who knew what it was like to be "different" and he, to her surprise, decided to not take her back. They parted ways and Erland went back to Mirzapur and was brutally honest with Elise's parents when they questioned him on where their daughter was, telling them exactly what he thought about their treatment of her. Unsurprisingly, this didn't go over very well and Erland was then attacked by their guards. During the ensuing fight, Elise appeared and helped Erland and Aegon get away. A short time afterwards, Erland questioned Elise on why she came after him, to which she responded that she knew her parents wouldn't have accepted she wasn't coming back. She also said she felt she owed Erland for not just dragging her back when he could've easily done so. Next thing he knows, she kissed him (fade to black). They stuck together for a couple months before the trouble with Elise's parents caught up to them and forced them to part ways. He then travels with Aegon while doing whatever work he could find to keep himself and Aegon fed. Eventually, he found his way to Surat where he found Fai, Jo'Vasha, and Vijil.

A infernal plane-touched dragon knight, bonded to Aegon, an amethyst drakkon.

Part of Nameless Soefra Party.

Erland grew up in the small town of Pasona in the north of Ikela and was born to a human woman named Evelyn Nygaard. He never knew his father--Evelyn did tell Erland that his father was important and had people after him. So he left to protect them. On his 12th birthday, his mother gave him a heavy signet ring on a chain that she said had belonged to his father. A few months later, unfortunately, she died under mysterious circumstances. Erland wasn't convinced it was natural as Evelyn was perfectly healthy before. Erland was taken in by Qira Hastra, who was the town blacksmith, and her daughter Daelynn. Qira had been a good friend to Evelyn and Erland had been working with her since he was 10 in an informal apprenticeship.

Personality

Sarcastic, reckless, and somewhat arrogant. These are the qualities that Erland presents to the majority of people. But the people he's closer to will see someone who is terrified of his past(his father and the unknowns with that) and the feelings of inadequacy that came from what he considers his "failings." He's also fiercely protective of the people he's close to.

Ideals: Can't stand bullies, nobility, and people with huge egos. He'll quickly jump to the defense of victims of these types of people (which led to many bruises and broken bones when he was younger).

Bonds: He'll do whatever he can to keep the people he cares about safe even at the cost of his own health and safety. Despite many in his Order thinking him a traitor, he still considers the Dragon Knights to be his family and wants to find a way to clear his name.

Flaws: Has a bad habit of rushing in without thinking. He can also be rather greedy and frugal when it comes to money.
