Fai

A human(?) man(?) with strange body-modification powers. Doesn't remember much of his(?) recent past.

Part of Tempus Machina.

Age: 21-22

Backstory:

Fai had met the party during his early teens. He had been staying with his uncle, Alois, when he had been in the academy for gifted students. After attending the academy for some time, his family had an emergency regarding Reya, his younger sister, who had some physical issues from birth. He had gone back home to be with her. Before he left, he made a promise to the party that he would go adventuring with them when this whole situation was settled.

Before he met the party again, Fai had somehow gained his Protean ability. He has very fragmented memories, to where he mainly remembers brief glimpses of the past. He does remember two distinct things- his promise to meet the party again and Reya calling out to him.

He woke up a couple months before meeting the party, where he travelled on his own. During these travels, he learned of his abilities as a Protean (completely on accident). However, he also found out the hard way that people don’t respond well to his mutations. So he is a bit nervous around people and using his mutations.

Goals: find out what happened to himself and to find Reya

Interesting Tidbit: Fai doesn’t look like the rest of his family. His family is a lot more tan, with dark hair and brown eyes. He has golden eyes, very light tanned skin, and was initially more honey hair, which has now been dyed darker. There were rumors that he may have been an affair child or something. Who knows.

Relationships:

Father and mother- he does not remember them, but they may be alive. Or dead. Update: Fai's mother and father are (in the current timeline) alive. Due to memory shenanigans, his mother had been forced to forget him (and Reya).

Reya- younger sister, who is about 18. Fai briefly remembers some memories of her and the two were very close. Most of his memories involved her being in bedrest or using a cane to walk. Fai wants to find her. Update: She's living in a school for those with aether sickness.

Alois- his uncle who worked at the school and was an ex-military agent. Fai wanted to initially join the military and make a name for himself, so he was sent to school at the academy with Alois as his mentor. Update: Alois is alive, but corrupted by the Adversary. Currently living in the village of Makari near Charn.

Fai was sort of the second priority of the family due to Reya’s condition. Reya’s condition could go from good days [able to move around with a cane] to bad days [complete bed rest, needs constant care]. For this reason, Fai’s family spent more time taking care of Reya. Fai decided to go to live with his uncle temporarily so he could train to be a knight AND so it is easier on his parents [one less kid to worry about]. As a child, he did have some issues with wanting to be the best/trying to get his parents’ approval due to them favoring Reya. Timeline note: in the current (modified) timeline, Fai's parents had retained their noble status and much of their wealth.

Seeker and Watcher

Fai's mother's family, stretching back to the first humans to settle in Soefra, had become associated with Charn and its wards. Each generation saw two important figures from the bloodline--the Watcher and the Seeker. The Watcher was always a woman, chosen to keep the book of records and the memory of Charn (and their connection to it) alive. Each Watcher selected and trained the next Watcher. The Seekers were sent, in company of the previous Seeker (now called the Guide) to Charn to re-establish the link to the outer warding layer.

Fai is the last Seeker; it was during this trip with Alois (the previous seeker, now the Guide) that the Reweaving occurred (due to a breach in the outer wards).
