Federated Nations
The Federated Nations Council (short form: Federated Nations or FNC) is an international organization formed in western Noefra to handle international relationships, trade negotiations, and peace-keeping efforts among the signatory states.
History
Founding through Crystal Spire War
Founded in 206 AC through the efforts of the Catalysts, the original FNC consisted of the following nations:
- the Council Lands,
- Wyrmhold (then called the Remnant Dynasty),
- Byssia,
- the Windwalker Confederacy,
- and the Stone Throne.
It mostly handled trade matters as well as was the chartering organization for the Adventurer’s Guild. Centered at Fort Hope, it also controls the Portal Network.
Until the Crystal Spire War of 217 AC, the FNC was mostly passive, serving as a mutual contact point. Interactions between nations were sparse and nations mostly focused on their own concerns; the council stayed out of internal affairs entirely. Trade happened through the portals and was only beginning to happen over land.
One of the first tasks the Council undertook was to standardize the international reference coinage, a decision that has lasted until this day.
Crystal Spire War to present
The events of the Crystal Spire War changed that calculus. The intervention of Adventurer’s Guild operatives in what some parties were calling "suppressing rebellion" and others "oppression" set a precedent. Specifically, the Guild and the powerful adventurers (and their allies) would not tolerate inter-member (or even infra-member) hostilities. The council has mediated the difficulties between Byssia and Wyrmhold in the Nocthian Caldera, handled the breakup of the Stone Throne into the three nations that now form that region, and the dissolution of the Council Lands into the Successor States (with only limited success at preventing bloodshed) and watched over the growing trade and interconnections between nations.
In the summer of 251 AC, Auringon applied for membership in the Council system.
Current Concerns
- Tensions (again) between Byssia and Wyrmhold, this time in the Tri-nation Border region near the Blood-thirst Wildlands. These flared in the summer of 251 AC, but are currently on the ebb due to adventurer interference.
- Handling the Holy Kaelthian Republic and its grabbiness and difficulties with its neighbors [Future note: at the end of 251 AC, the change in the divine status of Loran Hae causes the HKR to retreat inward and turn away outsiders other than at border enclaves].
- Relations with the east, via the newly-reopened (summer 251) Shaadval portal.
- Increased secessionist sentiment in the orc-dominated Fiach Wood of Wyrmhold.
- Expansion of various nations into the Blood-thirst Wildlands, causing difficulties with the existing residents.
- Handling contact with the Goroesi of Moon's Vengeance, opened by Enigma.
- Growing dissatisfaction in many parts at the heavy-handed control exerted by the Adventurer’s Guild via the Crystal Spire Protocols as well as their monopoly on the Portal Network nodes.
- Working toward greater integration with nations in Soefra, both those of the Great Rift as well as the Phoenix Empire of central Soefra.
- Internal strife within the First Expeditionary Fleet of the Ship Folk and on Sentinel Island.
