Kel'tana
The capital city of the Phoenix Empire (aka Kel'tan). Located at the heart of the Solar Highlands, at the (unnatural) fork of two rivers and at the base of the only mountain on those highlands. The city sprawls in the shadow of the mountain, which has been honeycombed and terraced as part of the Immortal Emperor's palace. The top is shaped into a gigantic phoenix sculpture, with the throne room in the creature's head.
Population
Kel'tana is a mix of densely-populated slums and sprawling estates. Overall, the population was nearly 100,000 as of early 251 AC. This breaks down as follows
- Pureblood gwerin nobles: Trace amounts (~200)
- Pureblood gwerin commoners: 5%
- Magebred gwerin: 10%
- Chaudeekar and sena'ka servants/warriors: 30% (mostly the latter)
- Other magebred slaves: 55%
Post the fall of the Immortal Emperor, the overall population has dropped in half, with many slaves and warriors escaping the devastated noble houses. Many of the purebloods have been killed; a few have fled.
After 251 AC
After the death of the Immortal Emperor Hafgan ap Kel'tan in the fall of 251 AC, the palace has fallen at least partially to ruins due to the unbinding of his spells and partly due to the civil war that erupted. The city is in the possession of the "loyalist" faction of gwerin pureblooded nobles, seeking to re-establish the empire.
