AKA lizardfolk. One of the earliest creations of the Phoenix Empire, possibly even pre-dating Moon's Fall. Only found in the Great Rift area of Soefra.

As gleaned from reports from North Ithemba (as close as any scholar of the Sages has ever been), the zandolit have the following characteristics:

  • They're cold blooded, both physically and emotionally. They tend to think rationally or at least dispassionately. They sort-of understand emotions, but those don't have much influence over their actions, with a few exceptions.
  • Tribe and territory means a lot to them. "Us" vs "outsider" is a major concept; the word for "threat" and "stranger" are strongly related. Tribes tend to be smallish, a few hundred at most (including children). Gender is relatively irrelevant. Tribes are lead by a warleader advised by a shaman.
  • Most zandolit are content to deal with primitive technology (effectively stone age). Very few farm, although they are omnivorous. They tend to wander and/or live in crude huts.
  • Zandolit tend to propitiate/placate the kami; they only worship gods (or other ascendants) as "I'll pay you, but you better help me." They're not considered very devout.
  • Zandolit magic tends to the shamanistic (spirits, kami, and nature).
  • Zandolit are rarely subtle or deceptive. And strongly dislike those who are.

An anomaly, living in a secreted valley under the protection of Gozh, these zandolit are civilized and farm and have technology.
