Dragon knights in Soefra organize themselves in three different ways.

  1. First are the Renunciates, loners who don't join organizations. They bonded with their drakkon on their own and have not met other dragon knights or have refused to join the Free Brotherhoods or the Flightbound, or possibly have been exiled from those groups. Free from the strictures and boundaries, they are able to pursue their own goals, while also acting alone. The Free Brothers are most accepting of the Renunciates, while the Flightbound tend to view them with suspicion.
  2. The Free Brotherhoods are small groups (usually 2 or 3 knights) who have pledged to support one another. Brotherhoods pledge to aid other Brothers, to uphold honor, to seek out and train new knights, and to protect mortals from the ravages of unbonded drakkons and their hunger. In general, they take the side of mortals. The Free Brothers tend toward the Rider and Shadow practices. Mercenary knights are either Renunciates or Free Brothers. There is a loose central clearing house in (city), where a retired knight turned merchant maintains connections with the wandering Brothers.
  3. The Flightbound are those knights who have pledged their loyalty to one of the dragon flights. Their code of honor and practice depends on the flight; they pledge obedience more than anything. The word of the ancient is absolute. In conflict between flight and mortals, they take the side of the flights without hesitation. Flightbound tend to either the Luminous practice or the Elemental practice, although there are Flightbound of every practice.
