Sea-Song Academy
A school for exceptional individuals in Varanasi, Ikela. The Headmaster is a reclusive individual with bardic talents, known for being very well connected to all the rumor networks.
Student Population
The Academy houses roughly 150 students at a time, of which generally 50 are drawn from the First and Second Families and the rest are from wealthy merchanter families or scholarship students. The scholarship students are chosen by methods and for reasons known only to the Headmaster, but his track record of picking people who will go on to make waves is...impressive.
Course of Study
Every student takes courses on
- Ikelan and world history
- Races and cultures of the region
- Basics of magic
- Etiquitte
- Religion
But those only occupy a fraction of the time. Most of the curriculum is individualized, with faculty (some in-residence, others visiting) teaching an eclectic array of courses to hand-picked students. Those with magical gifts are trained in their talents; those with martial gifts are trained in combat. There are rumors that those with more...larcenous...gifts have training in such things in a hidden part of the campus. Those without particular talents can take classes in the arts, discourse, politics (in which they may intern with members of the Houses), etc.
A full course of study, terminating upon graduation or expulsion, lasts generally about 4 years, although many students follow shorter courses and some linger for nearly a decade. Graduation comes when the student and advisors decide it's time.
Campus
The campus is a 300 acre collection of buildings, open areas, experimental areas, and even farms located about 1 mile outside the walls of Varanasi along the Sheo river. Considered a "hard target" for those intent on harm, it is patrolled both by guards loyal to the Headmaster and...stranger things....
