A gigantic offshoot of the Mother Tree, rooted partially in the Abyss (in a lingering fragment of the Nameless's corporeal being) but primarily manifesting on the Lost Coast near the gates to Zhivsen Khot and just north of the headwaters of the Starvalin River. Almost entirely shrouded from sight in the Mortal plane, it was visible in Shadow as an enormous (multiple thousands of feet tall) tree seemingly made out of black threads, with threads extending out into the distance as it manipulated entities across the coastal region and into the Nocthian Caldera.

Created when a coven of five hags brought their Hagseeds to fullness by manipulating the Khaimal into their current paranoid, xenophobic state as payback for stiffing them on payment for soul-manipulation technology right around the time of the Cataclysm. They took up residence in the tower of the (now forgotten) mage who triggered the Cataclysm War by summoning the Nameless from the Abyss, and used his residual portal to create a safe root zone for their conjoined "eternal" essence. They also surrounded the tower with 30+-foot thick thorns stretching the entire height of the tower, preventing any entrance from the Mortal Plane.

Defeat in 252 AC

The Black Tree was destroyed by Ad Elementis, who were searching for the cause of Yonas's nightmares. As it turned out, the Black Tree was fundamentally responsible for this, and paid the price. After the destruction of the heart of the tree in the Abyss, the tree solidified in the Mortal plane as a tree, now petrified to black stone.
