History

Pre-Adventuring

Flynn Gro'Arbork's father, Kormak, was the third son in a family of five. He had little status in the tribe: his two older brothers got most of the acclaim. The tribe came across a camp near an old ruin. Lying there were a dozen dead ihmisi and one badly mauled survivor. She (Vellama) was adopted into the tribe and nursed back to health. As she healed Kormak would take Vellama hunting with him; she never felt comfortable in the camp but preferred the wilds and the forests. She could never describe what had happened to her family beyond the visions of monstrosities coming up out of the ground, into their camp site. The shaman gave her infusions to keep the nightmares away.

Kormak and Vellama became a mating pair, their union celebrated on a Mid Summer Night feast. She gave birth to triplets under a full moon in the spring. Flynn was the last one out. She could only nurse two boys, but Flynn was fortunate in another's misfortune: the chieftain's niece had had a still birth three days before; she nursed Flynn to health. The omens cast on his ninth birthday were unambiguous: he was third son of a third son and was thus Tor Elan's own, according to the traditions of clan Arbork. Kormak and Vellama made the journey to offer him to the temple of Tor Elan in Lyodnoir. He was accepted. He had just turned ten.

Flynn has modest charisma as his self confidence has never been high; because he was the third son of a third son his parents shipped him off to the temple when he was ten. He is a little bit wary of strangers. A lot of people he met at Lyodnoir took advantage of him…or tried to. They saw him as some sort of uneducated wild man, a woodsman of low social status.

An apt pupil, Flynn never stopped missing the hills, streams, trees and lakes of his homeland. He missed the songs sung at sunset with the clan. Upon coming of age, and despite already rising in the ranks of Tor Elan's disciples, he asked to be allowed to return home. It did not hurt that he had met Sargas, the great warrior priest of Tor Elan who had gone adventuring and returned as a shining example of Tor Elan's disciples. Flynn met with Sargas shortly before leaving the temple. Sargas's saga and guidance were the final puzzle piece that inspired Flynn to go back out into the world. "I must bring sunlight to the shadows under the forest's shade. If I can push back the darkness that consumed my mother's family, I shall bring glory to the Sun, and to Tor Elan."

He set out for the Fiach Wood, hoping to find them again in the eastern eaves of the forest. Flynn's folk tended to summer in the hills ... central ridge from biggest clump headed ENE and winter in the forests south of the central ridge line. Once every seven years they would head to the north coast for the summer. It was the seven-year salmon run they would be following. Flynn's folk sometimes traded with Horse Clan folk from the plains ... where the plains and forest meet. That is where he was searching when he came across Goban Tighe Gro'Rok...and the rest, as they say, is history.

A pack of four dire wolves attacked Goban after he killed a deer, in an attempt to steal it from him. They nearly killed him. When Flynn happened upon Goban, having heard the sounds of the fight, Goban was stabbing a dire wolf repeatedly - the one that had its teeth locked onto his shoulder. Another Dire Wolf was tearing at his leg. Goban was in a dire situation. He had already killed one when Flynn's crossbow Bolt hit the second one. The other two ran off because, as Flynn got closer, he used channel divinity to light up the night and do radiant damage to them. That is why the two fled: fear, surprise, and a fanatical devotion to the puppy. Flynn saved Goban's ass. Since then he's had Flynn's back as the two of them hunt for Flynn's tribe. The two of them ended up heading west together and ended up near Duleog.

How these two get along: the odd couple With Goban's outgoing demeanor and intimidation, coupled with Flynn's more reserved approach and efforts at persuasion, they end up doing a variation of Good Cop / Bad Cop. In the end, thanks to Sargas' teaching, a quick butt stroke of the spear to the head of the Unsure often convinces them to see the light. Or to just see stars.
