Jael of Myji

Septarch of Myji (the Ravens), Jael is an intensely driven, charismatic cysgor male in late middle age.

History

Jael was born in 35 BC to a Beaver mother who had never been into Shadow. He grew up lower class, but was selected to join the Ravens by winning a debate with a renowned Raven Speaker (one of the ravens responsible for persuading the dying to take up residence in soul gems) at age 15. He quickly rose to prominence, becoming Abbot of a satellite monastery near Myrfyr at age 29 and then anointed Septarch ten (subjective) years later (in 168 AC) after the previous Septarch passed. While there were rumors that the old Septarch died untimely, these quickly died away.

Since then, he has lived in Shadow at Myrfyr monastery and masterminded both his sept and the larger Expansionist cause.

Politics

Jael is head of the Expansionist faction of cysgor politics. He favors abandoning the traditions of the past and reforging the people into a new, stronger, aggressive race by whatever means necessary. He believes that the survival of the cysgor people is the only priority and will take any means and pay any price to see that come to fruition...as long as he remains at the head. Although he strongly prefers if other people pay the price.

Deals with Jael always have costs and hidden traps, and he plays the double game (one face in public and one face in private) very well. Pinning him down is very difficult. Coupled with his mesmerizing manner, he believes he can talk his way out of anything. Or into anything.

Family

Jael has no spouse, but he has fathered several children on various women. He shows no sentimental attachment to either his lovers or his children.

Appearance

A slim, well-kept man, Jael shows no signs of his age. His primary notable feature is his goatee (unusual for a cysgor, who rarely grow facial hair).

Capabilities

Jael relies on three major capabilities--

• He wields the top section of the Ebony Rod, although he is loath to actually display its power beyond the basics.
• His main weapon is his voice, which is a finely-tuned instrument capable of persuading stones and causing even his most bitter enemies to pause and consider.
• Despite this, he is still a competent swordsman and wields Blackedge, a magical rapier that drains the life from his foes.
