Kairen Mountains
The Kairen Mountains are the range that forms the eastern wall of the Nocthian Caldera. Not as sheer as the western or southern ranges, the Kairen Mountains are similar to the Rocky Mountains of Earth in height, but much narrower. The average width of the mountainous region is about 70 miles. The area is characterized by tall peaks and narrow forested valleys. The climate is mostly arid (especially in the central section near Lyodnoir), but significant snow falls during the winter.
It is occupied and heavily settled by the dragonborn clans of Wyrmhold. Anu is most common near the caldera itself, with Gal and Syra in the central region and Byarsh to the south. The northern regions are inhabited lightly by the orcish tribes. At the far north, the mountains open out on the Glacial Badlands, a region of broken terrain left behind by the magical glaciation caused by the Hungering Frost.
