Lascivia

From Dreams of Hope

An autumn fey, given additional power through the worship of the Hidden Folk. Protects a valley south of Honedaxe and has promised (due to the influence of Enigma) to act as a last-ditch protector of that village.

Background

Ancient mountain kami, incarnated after a plea (to anyone) by the ancestors of the Hidden Folk for protection from the Cataclysm. She vowed to protect them, turning the invading orcs (see Grey Eagle) into stone. Since then she's been worshipped by the Folk, although they don't know her true nature or the nature of the vow, as their protector and patron. Erected a veil around the valley. People can't see in (they see empty terrain instead) and those who enter except through the one pass in Rushing Water Cave have their memory stripped and wander around and back out. Within, all is at peace, including animals. The cost of this is growth. She enforces a mindset of passivity, because growth brings a desire to leave, and the outside is dangerous. As this is an external influence from birth, few realize it. But everyone does the bare minimum and mostly just sleeps. Or sits around telling ancient stories that haven't changed for generations. No new discoveries, only a bare minimum new kids to keep population stable (although it's slowly decreasing), etc. Recently, Aedron (founder of Honedaxe walked into Rushing Water Cave, driven to suicide by the collapse of his hopes and his bankruptcy. Before he could kill himself, Lascivia intervened and turned him to stone. Realizing that there were dangerous folks outside, she started to extend her aura to the north to "bring them into her peace". It hasn't worked.

Enigma, seeking the source of the aura, found the cave, and negotiated the freedom of the Ancestors and Aedron. After also destroying the corruption at Borrowed Song, she relented and released the town from her influence but promised to stand watch.
