Named
Of the three types of beings (Named, Mortal, and Abhorrent), the Named are the true natives of the planes other than the Mortal, Shadow, and the Abyss. Unlike mortals, the Named do not have souls (or Sparks). They have, instead, True Words at their core. Or fragments thereof. Derived from the Name of their native planes, they partake of its nature. They are ageless and in some respects immortal--a Named that is destroyed will eventually reform...or one with the same name. The only ways to put them down forever include consumption by another Named (incorporating their Name into the devourer's own), consumption by an Abhorrent, artifact-grade interference, or being destroyed while present in full self on the mortal plane (and their name thus returning to its source). This strength is also a weakness--the Named can be bound by their Names and compelled to act in ways that are difficult to replicate with mortals. They are also inherently stagnant--the only way for them to change significantly is for the Word at their core to change, a process that requires consuming another Named...or personality-changing trauma. They require a steady influx of aether to sustain their existence, and their personal power changes with how much aether they can gather.
Named of the Planes
- For the elemental planes, the high-ranking Named are the genies:
- Dao of the planes of Earth
- Ifriti of the planes of Fire
- Djinni of the planes of Air
- Maridi of the planes of water.
- For the Astral, the named are mostly Lucians. Ascendants are also Named, despite having once been mortals.
- Some claim that the Fey are the Named of Shadow, but really there are no Named for Shadow; the Fey are the Named of the Mortal plane.
