Rajai Jala

Current (251 AC) head of the Jala family, ruler of the Jaora region of Ikela. A 50-year-old human male, he commanded a marine brigade in the war against the Ship Folk and still leans heavily on his military background. A staunch conservative, he distrusts new-fangled fashions and commerce and supports vigorous foreign policy. He distrusts and dislikes arcane spellcasters more than most Ikelans, because he considers his sister, Alana Norbrook, as having betrayed the country and (more importantly) the family by decamping to Fatehpur to study wizardry. He recognizes that disliking all practitioners of a tradition for the acts of one (that weren't even evil, just annoying) is irrational, but still indulges it.

He is married to Karena Calabai, although he has been occasionally unfaithful, their marriage is still amicable and his only illegitimate child (Irisala Jala, age 14, daughter of a serving girl) has been legitimized and is one of their favorites.
