Backstory

Dil Husty grew up in the port town of Fuhino on the northern coast of the Serpent Sea. She spent her youth fishing and sailing - and generally getting into mischief. Uncle Mikham, a tavern keeper, nurtured her musical talent, and, taught her a few arcane secrets and some lore.

Dil hired on as a lookout / deckhand on the good ship Windbreaker, whose captain sometimes traded and sometimes raided. He styled himself a Gentleman of Fortune. She hoped one day to be a Lady of Fortune, but her career was interrupted during her twenty second summer. One night, after Windbreaker ended a raucous port visit to Tarad'am, a notorious Ship Folk pirate ship called The Scarlet Pearl overtook and boarded them - putting all to the sword. She was the last one standing, beset by saber and dagger at the starboard rail. Unleashing her final arcane reserves in a burst of thunder, she went over the side rather than be taken and sold into slavery – as they had threatened to do to her.

Post-Adventuring Career

During the closing stages of Enigma's adventures, Dil met and fell in love with The Eldest. Her affections were returned, about the time of Tson's wedding and the fall of Loran Hae. By the time she 'retired' she was with child. After settling down in Tarad'am she gave birth to Aurora Lee Husty. Her good friend, Queen Raanee of Crisial Kingdom, was overjoyed at Dil's good fortune.

During the first year after Enigma disbanded Dil took over the operations of Enigma's collectively-owned shipping business, with the Golden Pearl as her flagship. Fos is her special ops/special projects lead, with a focus on the waterways around Sentinel Island and toward Cape Dread. During that year, she established and expanded upon the cordial, professional relationship she had made with the admiral (female) of the Ship Folk faction; their joint interest was in curtailing, and then ending, the Ship Folk slaving habits in the region. They achieved success. At the end of that first year she had established a permanent teleportation circle in Tarad'am linked to Crisial City, within in her Enigma compound.

At the end of the second year she had magically erected a fortress in the Syndicate Docks area of Tarad'am to serve as the Enigma Headquarters and barracks, and was one of a number of initiatives to upgrade this part of the city - initiatives which have been at least partly successful. Her company's sailors, when the ships are in port, have a place to stay ashore as needed...and an exercise yard to keep up their weapons proficiency.

During her third year, she undertook a series of visits to Fuhino (her home town) to assist in building improved docks, and a new ship repair facility. Her Simulacrum (Simdil) has a primary duty of conducting weapons training for all Enigma employees, training in all weapons that a bard is proficient in. She also keeps an eye on things when Dil is out of town. Travel has reduced in frequency since the Time of Troubles began after the weakening of the veil and the arrival of her second child.

As the troubles began (circa 254 AC) Dil found that travel to and from other major cities has had to be curtailed. She has relied on communication with selected agents in various major cities and with Azhekiel Cai Valour up in Kel'a'lar / Asai'ka.

Relationships within Tarad'am

Enigma and the Dimwit Syndicate, and their allies Serpentstrike, have arrived at a mutual understanding. They work together on matters of common concern: dock facilities, dredging, breakwater maintenance, harbor facilities, repair facilities, etc. Any insinuations of money laundering are libelous, scandalous, and will not be taken lightly!

Enigma and the Broken Chains have developed a mutual understanding.

Dil and the governor have a cordial relationship. During her fourth year (since retiring) she became a member of the Admiralty Board. (yes, this was related to the Time of Troubles beginning). She knows how to work with the various leaders of the crime families/syndicates in the city. The longer she is in the shipping business the less she likes the corruption she runs into, but she is patient about the pace of reforms. Being on the Admiralty Board helps somewhat, but given the revolving door membership of that august body there are limits on what can be done.

Dil hosts an annual music festival that has been a big hit with the locals and now attracts tourists. The occasional complaint by visitors as regards pick pockets and petty thievery are still an issue. She is an advocate for the arts, and encourages (through her persuasive skills) many of the richer folk in Tarad'am to become patrons of the arts. A musical conservatory has been established in the Dream Quarter thanks to her advocacy.

While there has been some complaint that Dil is 'gentrifying' the Syndicate dock area, her initiatives and increased maritime trade (Enigma's fleet) has improved business and reduced (but obviously not eliminated) crime in that part of the city. The complaints are muted, and in some cases even good-natured. With "the Filth and the Serpent's Nest" adjacent, there is only so much gentrification that is going to last around the Syndicate docks.

Music Career

She produced a few more albums/song collections that were duly released and distributed by her connections on the Astral plane. Tsun Azur remains her business partner/muscle/agent in these dealings. Along the way, she fiercely advocated among Forever and Beyond's leadership that Tsun become the head of that Registered Company. The breaking of the veil did some damage to adventuring companies, but under Tsun's leadership Forever and Beyond is making a comeback.

She had a recent surprise hit single called Goban and Sun Flynn. Seems that she visited Crisial City and had an impromptu conversation with Flynn and Asher.

Fleet Career

Captains of Enigma-flagged vessels, once they establish their competence, are gifted with a moon touched blade (either a rapier, a longsword, or a short sword) by Dil, which she makes with her own hands (and usually has a smith for assistance).

Enigma's fleet have been recently coordinating with Yonas Akotriz of Byssia; he and Dil are proactive in dealing with threats to commerce and security around Cape Dread and Gap Tooth Bay.
