Barbegazi, or frost goblins, are a sub-species of goblins associated with the Plane of Ice. Much like the genasi (who are humans strongly influenced by one of the elemental planes), the barbegazi show significant effects of exposure to areas high in umbral water. A few of these are detailed below under the section Racial Traits. On the Noefran continent, they are primarily found in the Kairen Mountains and Nocthean Caldera regions. Their ancestors followed the Hungering Frost from the Plane of Ice and then were abandoned when the frost collapsed in 211 AC. Tribes remain one of the major players on the Caldera. Some have allied with Wyrmhold for protection, but most remain independent and territorial.
Racial Traits
Barbegazi stand slightly taller than "regular" goblins, averaging between 3'4" and 4'5". They are also bulkier and tend more toward the muscular than regular goblins. Like goblins, they have a tribal shared unconscious/memory; unlike "true" goblins, they are more detached and more conscious of this sharing and can, with effort, filter information. This allows their tribes to be more stable. Unlike regular goblins, they cannot easily produce hobgoblins or bugbears. They all are at home in cold climates and less affected by supernatural cold (such as the breath of a white dragon). Some barbegazi show outright ice-related abilities, including the ability to flash-freeze those who attack them in close combat.
Magically, barbegazi tend much more toward the arcane than most goblins. This is especially true of the tribes of the Nocthean Caldera.
