Much more heavily settled and tamed than the Byssian Highlands, the Lowlands are the domain of the human populace of Byssia. Mostly reclaimed swampland-turned-rice-paddies, the dominant feature of the Lowlands is the Great Byssian Canal and its branches. Originally started back in the last days of Imperial Meztli, the system was finished, expanded, and has been maintained religiously after the Children of Night came out of the mountains. Every village pays yearly tribute, mostly in manpower but also in supplies and money which is dedicated to the Canal. It provides transport, flood control, and fresh-water irrigation to combat infiltration from the salty waters of Gap-tooth Bay.
