The roughly 100-mile gap in the Outer Border Range between Fuar Uulan and Kaelthia.

Map

The towns of Harmony (Town), Chuulu Hold and Devotion are part of the Uulan Confederacy, while Temperance, Bordertown, Virtue are part of the Holy Kaelthian Republic and Guildtown belongs to the Adventurer’s Guild. The region west of the Harmony river and north of the forest border to the south is the Gap itself; the regions east and south of the river are part of the Intermountain Wastes (AKA Moon's Vengeance Wastes). There is technically a trail down toward the Sha'slar Autonomous Zone, but almost no traffic moves along that route, especially recently and the trail is considered highly unsafe.

Climate and Terrain

The gap proper is forested and hilly. It's subject to severe storms in most seasons as the air from the Sea of Grass mixes with the warmer air of the Jungle of Fangs (south of the forest region). During the winter it's prone to heavy snow and blizzards. The Waste is much drier and warmer, rarely getting below freezing due to volcanic activity in the Inner Border Range to the south. If anything, however, the storms there are even more pronounced, blowing dust and rocks.

Architecture and Settlements

All buildings, by necessity of the inclement weather, are low to the ground and heavily reinforced. They frequently have basements and storm cellars. Virtue, Temperance, and originally Devotion were founded as work camps/frontier path-breaking labor camps by the HKR to "retrain" malcontents. In the last 10 years or so, the residents of Devotion rebelled and joined with those that had fled to Harmony. All have a reputation of being quite insular. Bordertown is on the main trade route to the Confederacy.
