The symbol of the Jala Family and Jaora generally.

The First Family of Jaora in Ikela.

Membership

  • Rajai Jala. (50 m). Head of the family. Twin to Alana Narbrook. Made his name fighting the Ship Folk during the invasion.
  • (Spouse) Karena Calabai (48 F). Daughter of one of the significant Second Families of Calabar.
  • Jor Jala (28 M). Heir. Landholder in his own right, although struggling at that. He and his wife Ashaia Dhamatri have 6 children and she is expecting their 7th during the early fall of 251 AC. They were betrothed at age 6 and married at age 14.
  • Ipsan Temple-minder (28 M). Identical twin to Jor. Given to the Church of the Congregation, United at age 7, he is the local high priest. He married Pela (of no particular house), a fellow acolyte about 2 years ago and is studiously non-political.
  • Rajar Jala (24 M). A noted "big game hunter". Known for his brusque manner and lack of conventional niceties. Married Essa, a "barbarian" woman from Bayannur territory; she matches him drink for drink and outrageous behavior for outrageous behavior. Known to have wrestled a bear and won. Both known for having a temper.
  • Bureaugard Jala (22 M). An effeminate fop. Extremely friendly with the Narbrook family. Rumor has it that he's a good duelist, however.
  • Irisala Jala (14 F). Not actually a daughter of Karena; she was born as the result of a dalliance with a serving girl, who died in childbirth. She has been legitimized since then.

Others

  • Rajaput Jala (72 M). Father of Rajai. Considered senile, but amusing, by the rest of the family.
  • Kal Rotha (38 M). Head of the Jala family guard. Widower with no children, not in a hurry to remarry. Called "the Bear" by many for his size and hirsute nature. Known for brutality in breaking up protests or demonstrations.
  • Iereth Dhamatri (62 F). Officially a Dhamatri, but has served (as her mother before her for a few generations) as the family librarian. Sticks strictly to her library in the Majal Jao, which she defends with extreme ferocity. Takes no guff from nobody. Friends with Rajaput Jala and the former Jala head.
