Travel
Most creatures in the Plane of Lightning can fly under their own power. However, distances between places to rest can be extreme. As a result, long-distance travel is performed by one of the following methods
- Transport pads connect the "stable" cities. Unlike the Portal Network, these take the shape of rune-inscribed pads for each destination (in a web-like arrangement)--simply step on and you are transported in a web of crackling lightning to the matching destination. The cost is in thaums -- renewable (for mortals) soul energy, the universal currency of the planes.
- Itinerant caravans carried by thunderbirds (a type of distant descendant of Anzu that don't need to rest on the wing) travel from point to point on incomprehensible (to outsiders) and ever-changing routes.
- Gromvagon (thunder-wagons) have been imported from the Plane of Coal at high expense and are available for rental (with a driver) or purchase (although this is very costly) in Gromnai. These enclosed vehicles are powered by the ambient aether and range from two-seater jittneys to ships capable of carrying 10 people (or 5 in more comfort). There are larger ones owned by the great powers for freight transport. These are the only vehicles that can stably penetrate the Eternal Storm, although that is still a dangerous proposition.
- Glider wings have been imported from the air-aspected dwarves of the Plane of Wind. These allow an individual to fly under their own power, and are commonly used for local transport or as emergency equipment for caravan or thunder-wagon travel.
