Jo'Vasha

From Dreams of Hope

Jo'vasha was born in the year 234 AC making him 17 when he left home. When asked, he tells people that he is 19, in order to avoid being viewed as a minor. Jo'Raani, his Mother, a sher-ka woman, and renowned (but mistrusted) wizard who taught at the Sea-Song Academy in Varanasi. Jo'darsha, his father, is a sher-ka merchant specializing in exotic goods such as spices. His father was distant, teaching him only to speak when spoken to, as his hope was to bring the Sher-ka race the respect and honor that it lacks in the region. Together the two made enough gold to own an upper class estate within the Academy District of Varanasi.

From a young age, he has been kept within his family home by his mother. She was extremely overprotective of him, refusing to allow him outside unless she was with him. She began homeschooling him at 2 years old, teaching him how to read and do basic math. By the time he was 10, she began training him in wizardry. His real passion was in art (specifically drawing), though he lacked the ability to perceive abstract concepts, so his drawing are always extremely realistic portraits and landscapes. It was around this age, that he met his three friends Fai, Vijil, and Erland. They would sneak him out (mostly out of pity, or so he believed), to play with them.

At the age of 12, he witnessed the shattering of reality known as the Reweaving during what seemed to be a dream. Something made him forget most of the event, but what he does remember is the image of a women staring down at him, with eyes that reflect the scene infinitely. After that event, he would spend hours attempting to draw her again. Each image was slightly different (hair style, or color, or nose shape etc.). He was never satisfied, always feeling like something about the picture was off. It was after this time that he dove into his research into the figure, and took his studies as a budding wizard seriously. He learned the figure was the Archon of Time. Through what he could find on her, he began learning the ways of channeling the magic of time. His eyes turned a deep black, with slowly drifting mist within and giving them incredible depth.

Five years passed, and as the years went on, he made more attempts at leaving. His mother was extremely abusive. From emotionally stunting him by the constant over-protection, to physical abuse or, as she would say "smacking some sense into him" if his assignments weren't up to her expectations. His attempts included trying to learn how to teleport short distances (misty step as it is called), only for his mother to catch him halfway through his spell scribing. As well as midnight dashes over the estate ground walls and into the streets, only for her to somehow find him within minutes. His escape was finally successful one night when he found a letter, instructing him to head southwest, to a far off town called Surat. He didn't know who sent the letter, but he believes the mysterious sender found a way to get his mother out for a long enough time for him to steal the misty step spell inscription, and escape his family home. He made his way our of town and down south as quickly as he could, hoping his mother wouldn't find him as he reconnected with his childhood friends and began an incredible journey.

Personality

Timid, with outbursts of strong emotions in times of innocents being in distress. Has a tendency to overthink, leading to him mumbling and rambling quietly. Occasionally enjoys breaking the minds of women with what he has seen or knows, due to his past.

Ideals: Will do anything he can to pursue his research into the Archon of time, wishing nothing more than to meet her. Also very attached to his art, having originally wanted to become an artist, if not for his mothers forced teaching of the arcane.

Bonds The few friends he met in his childhood (Fai, Vijil, and Erland). Later adding Aegon and, most importantly, The Archon of Time.

Flaws Extremely timid around women, often flinching at attempted physical contact between them. Tries to stay as far away as he reasonably can, when in proximity. Abstractions, as well as metaphors, often elude him. Usually takes such things completely literally.
