Phoenix Princess Leina
Phoenix Princess Leina (short for a much longer name and about 35 more titles) is a minor noble from the south-west part of the Phoenix Empire in Soefra, and coincidentally the sister of the man whom Crow's flock serves. She came to Noefra as part of a diplomatic mission. She spent 2 weeks in each of the major capitals, starting in Fort Hope, then Kaelthia, then Crisial City, Godsfall, Kel'al'ar, with the intent to travel to Asai'ka, Lyodnoir, and finally Byss via portal network with her retinue. Her travel was interrupted by treachery in Kel'al'ar, where her Voice tricked her into traveling to Tarad'am and then betrayed her into the hands of the gang known as the Sealions who sold her to Gor'ka. After a month or more of captivity and psychological torture, she was rescued by Enigma and returned home (thereby averting diplomatic consequences between the Federated Nations and the Phoenix Empire).
Leina is a young gwerin, conventionally dresses in illusory fog + a one-way transparent mask. The fog appears to show lots of skin, but it's illusion. Metallic copper hair, pale skin. Underneath she's normally wearing basically pajamas, and not very revealing ones. She knows she doesn't really have any authority, but the other option was being married off. Personality is smart, with a sarcastic streak carefully hidden. Roughly Mage stat block, mostly illusion and enchantment.
After the death of the Phoenix Empire's Emperor, she fled north with Hieronimous sur Golai, archmage of Fatehpur and rebel phoenix noble. She is currently (as of 251 AC) living in that city.
Retinue
- Two handmaids: Carys and Rhian.
- Carys is "goth"--pale skin, jet black hair, black eyes. Wears frilly black lace clothing, showing very little skin. Bubbly personality. Necromancer wanna-be. Roughly 5th level (3rd level spells).
- Rhian is her opposite--dark brown skin, platinum hair, silver eyes. Wears filmy veils. Solid, down to earth personality. Specializes in abjuration. Roughly 5th level (3rd level spells). Rhian was captured along with Leina and taken prisoner.
- Voice (spokeswoman as nobles aren't supposed to talk to anyone directly): En-ar. Chaudeekar. Does not show her face, wears robes and veils. Proficient assassin and mystic. Much older, is also the keeper of the mission and the real authority. Abuses her position dreadfully. Commanding and sharp. Not particularly liked. Vanished after the betrayal.
- Lieutenant Fal-kan + 4 sena'ka heartguard. He's a sena'ka warrior, while they are sena'ka heartguard. Utterly loyal to Leina. Often quite irritated with En-ar.
- Intelligence Officer Ekek Caw. Crow's cousin, from the same flight. Kaua. Spy. Mix of disappointment + quiet respect for Crow for breaking free.
Family
Leina was born as part of a punishment contract marriage. Her mother Phoenix Princess Gvendalin defied one of the Archmagosi and so was ordered to marry a lower-ranking man, Prince Ilkan, and bear two children to him. These children were thus Phoenix nobles, which made them ineligible for Ilkan's House, but Gvendalin's House denied them as well, causing the three of them to form a micro-House of their own. Ilkan was sufficiently abusive and damaging to Gvendalin that she snapped and killed him. Under the circumstances, her sentence was commuted to merely confinement in the House of the Mad. This left the two kids alone from a young age without family.
Leina has one living relative, her brother Ardwyd, who, being older and slightly more powerful, was named Ri (or "leader") of their House. They are under the jurisdiction of Ardri Melodia, who has been making every effort to get Leina married off and was displeased when Leina decided to go north to Noefra on the diplomatic mission.
