Grand Court
At the center of Nara Kara, the largest city of the Plane of Lava, stands the Great Court, an arena devoted to trial by combat. It is the ultimate resort for those believing themselves wronged--anyone anywhere, across the planes, can appeal to the Court for redress. Criminal, civil, or personal, it matters not. However, such appeals are not easy or routine--far from it. For here in the realm of Alastor, World Judge, right is proved by strength of arm or magic. The appellant must stake his or her life on their claim, even if a proxy is hired to do the actual fighting. Both sides meet for combat by whatever means they can muster; the side that walks away is declared victor and in the right. The only rules in the arena are that (1) no outside interference, not even that of the gods, is allowed and (2) no Awakener or Jotnar influence is allowed (due to the collateral consequences). A side effect of rule #1 is that all combatants are restored to their "peak" condition before the fight begins--exhaustion, ill-nourishment, etc are considered "outside influences".
It's said that the Powers that ward the arena are incorruptible and cannot be cheated. This does not mean that trials here are fair by standards elsewhere. For example, an artisan, if tricked into challenging the judgements of the Cult of Burning Law, may be forced to fight with unpracticed hands and minimal equipment against an enforcer, which might be a fire giant gladiator or other overwhelming foe. Might is the only right.
